Inge Rijanto

Inge Rijanto, born in Semarang of Central Java, Inge graduated from
Hochschule fur bildende Kunste, a renowned fashion design school in Berlin
of Germany in 1971, in which later became her entry ticket to her career path
as a fashion designer.

As she reached the peak of her success as both fashion designer and
businesswoman, she in the end decided to leave her attainment and instead
heading to different direction. That was the moment where Inge stepped up
to pursue her long stay dream of becoming an artist.
Over the past five years, she has created hundreds of sketches based on life
models with accurate anatomy in various poses. Her previous career as a
fashion designer taught her the importance of representing the correct
proportions and structure of an object. This experience led her to move
beyond flat images to also sculpting forms. The human body has particularly
inspired her and deepened her exploration into sculpture. Inge Rijanto’s
figurative sculptures convey and transform trivialities of everyday life into
iconographic material, magnifying human attitudes.
