Yani Mariani Sastranegara

Yani Mariani Sastranegara, born in 1955, Banten, is an established Indonesian sculptor. She received formal art education in the Jakarta Art Institute from 1974 through 1981. Yani Mariani’s works are mostly influenced by nature due to her childhood living in a plantation in East Sumatra. She had always found fascination in stones, instead of wood like most sculptors, she stated that there are no ill-looking stones, all stone is beautiful, one just had to discover its charm in the process of sculpting. In her creation process, Yani is inspired by movement, dynamic, and values found in nature. Something that moves, something that grows, something that intertwines- is what Yani tries to depict within her three-dimensional figuration.
